Updated: Jun 14, 2020
In case anyone who is participating in the recent#blacklivesmatter protests sees this post......
Our response to the recent#blacklivesmattermovementis simple. We fully support and look up to anyone who is passionate enough for this cause to go out and protest for the rights of#pocin the United States. So, we hope that this group of people will stay safe from both the ongoing pandemic and the violence of some protests by taking these precautions:
Don't attend these protests if you are at high risk for COVID-19 infection
Avoid direct police contact to minimize the possibility of you experiencing violence
Wear a face mask
Maintain physical distancing
Do not shake hands, hug, or conduct long, face-to-face conversations
Self-quarantine
Get tested beforehand
Bring Hand Sanitizer
Attend only peaceful protests, and avoid protests that have police, military, or counter protester presence
Take emergency precautions and essentials like water and hand soap in case you encounter anyone who has been sprayed
One special precaution to note is that, since these protests have been specifically convened to oppose violence against people of color, light-skinned members of the protests should follow the lead of event organizers to act as a buffer between potential violent cops and the black comrades that we are fighting for the rights of. To these people, step up and don’t leave any poc’s open to police repression.
